An established and growing provider of premium student accommodation is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Maintenance Operative/ Technician to join its team at a high-quality residential scheme in Canary Wharf
.

This is a frontline, hands‑on maintenance role, ideal for someone with a strong electrical maintenance background who enjoys a varied role combining planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and day‑to‑day building maintenance.

Working as part of the on‑site team, you will play an important role in ensuring the building, resident accommodation and communal areas are maintained to a safe, compliant and high standard.

The Role

You will take ownership of a wide range of electrical maintenance, fault‑finding and repair work
, alongside general reactive and planned maintenance across the building.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out reactive electrical repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Electrical fault finding and first‑line repairs to lighting, power, sockets, switches and other electrical systems.
  • Maintenance and replacement of light fittings, emergency lighting and associated electrical components
    .
  • Investigating and resolving electrical faults within resident rooms, communal areas and back‑of‑house spaces.
  • Carrying out basic testing and inspections, escalating more complex electrical works where required.
  • Supporting the maintenance of building services, plant rooms and associated equipment.
  • Responding to maintenance issues reported by residents and the on‑site customer service team.
  • Completing daily building inspections and identifying potential maintenance issues before they escalte.
  • Carrying out general maintenance duties where required, including minor plumbing, decorating and basic building repairs.
  • Supporting external contractors and ensuring works are completed safely and to the required standard.
  • Recording all maintenance activity accurately using the CAFM system and iPad.
  • Responding to incidents and emergency maintenance situations when required.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with Health & Safety, Fire Safety and company procedures.
About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A background in electrical maintenance within residential, commercial, hospitality, facilities management or similar environments
    .
  • Relevant electrical qualifications, ideally including Level 3 Electrical Installation / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
    .
  • Experience carrying out electrical fault finding, repairs and planned maintenance.
  • A good understanding of electrical systems within occupied buildings.
  • The ability to turn your hand to general maintenance and basic building repairs when required.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with reactive or urgent maintenance issues.
  • Experience using a CAFM or digital maintenance system would be beneficial.
  • A positive, hands‑on attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.

This role would particularly suit an electrically qualified maintenance engineer, electrical maintenance operative, electrical technician or electrician looking for a stable, long‑term role within a high-quality residential environment.

Due to the nature of the environment, flexibility around shift patterns and weekend working will be required. An Enhanced DBS check will also be required.
