HVAC Estimator
The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial HVAC construction projects. This position reviews project plans, specifications, drawings, and related documentation to determine project scope, material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
Working collaboratively with project management, operations, procurement, vendors, and customers, the HVAC Estimator develops competitive proposals that support the bidding process and position projects for successful execution. This role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, excellent analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while meeting established deadlines.
Responsibilities- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to define project scope, identify HVAC system requirements, and develop accurate estimating strategies
- Analyze blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation to determine equipment, material, labor, and subcontractor requirements necessary to develop complete and competitive estimates
- Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate existing conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimating
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, including equipment, materials, labor, subcontractors, rentals, and other project-related costs, while ensuring alignment with company standards and project requirements
- Develop complete bid proposals and pricing packages that align with project specifications, company standards, and overall bid strategy
- Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and other internal stakeholders to ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and competitive
- Solicit, review, and evaluate quotations from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and scope alignment
- Identify potential project risks, value engineering opportunities, scheduling considerations, and cost-saving alternatives
- Prepare and present estimates, pricing summaries, and project assumptions to internal leadership and customers when appropriate
- Participate in project turnover and handoff meetings to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to project execution
- Stay current on HVAC equipment, installation methods, industry trends, manufacturer offerings, and applicable building codes and regulations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating process to enhance efficiency, consistency, and accuracy
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and subcontractors to support successful bidding opportunities and long-term partnerships
- Opportunity for a flexible hybrid schedule after completing the initial training period and demonstrating proficiency in the role
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating or a related role within the mechanical contracting industry, with demonstrated success preparing competitive cost estimates, interpreting construction documents, and supporting the successful bidding of commercial HVAC projects
- Associate's degree, technical training, or certification in HVAC, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, equipment, installation methods, and current industry best practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation
- Experience using estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other construction management tools
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and comprehensive estimates
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines, manage multiple estimates simultaneously, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
