This opportunity is for a Process Engineer with primary focus on the Industrial Water/Wastewater market. You will be part of a growing organization developing water and wastewater treatment solutions for customers across North America, progressing from design plans to completed projects that meet client expectations and support Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. The role provides technical and process engineering leadership for treatment process evaluation, selection, design, optimization and evaluation of plant operations associated with permanent design activities on industrial water and wastewater design-build and/or EPC projects and pursuits.
Industrial Water Treatment projects include coagulation/flocculation, filtration, UF/RO, chemical precipitation of metals, chemical oxidation and reduction, oil/water separation and biological/biosolids treatment (thermal hydrolysis, advanced anaerobic digestion) as applicable in the petroleum, chemical, power and renewable gas markets.

LocationThis role will be based out of our Lenexa, Kansas office or our Lone Tree, Colorado office. We offer relocation assistance. More senior candidates with direct Wastewater or water treatment design experience near other Kiewit Hub Locations (Fort Worth, Houston, Chicago) may be considered.
Responsibilities- Provide technical and engineering design for industrial water and wastewater facility design, including treatment process evaluation, process selection, optimization, and evaluation of full-scale plant operations, pilot studies and bench studies as required. Identify and evaluate process lifecycle costs.
- Oversee and participate in the preparation of engineering reports, drawings and specifications for complex water/wastewater projects (PFDs, P&IDs, process simulations, datasheets, engineering calculations including hydraulics and equipment sizing).
- Perform process systems and hydraulics modeling and scenario studies.
- Provide front-line issue resolution of technical issues related to design, construction, equipment and/or operations.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers within a budget and schedule to execute design and engineering on projects.
- Interface with clients and partner engineers to support project and business development needs. Build long-term client relationships. Attend client development activities and functions.
- Provide engineering consultation in specialized areas related to treatment plant planning and design.
- Communicate and present industry trends, competitive situations, or technology/regulatory issues.
- Support business development efforts and help pursue new projects. Contribute to client proposals and project cost estimates.
- Actively participate in professional organizations. Prepare and present to clients and professional organizations.
- Represent Kiewit at meetings, presentations and public hearings related to assigned projects.
- Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve design production and efficiency.
- As a more Senior Engineer:
May lead/mentor entry and mid-level engineers for skill development, review progress, provide direction and coaching as needed.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in process development, conceptual and detailed design with a background in water/wastewater markets, or as an Application Engineer for a water equipment vendor
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred or in pursuit of PE within 1-2 years
- Understanding of federal, state and local regulations related to water characterization, treatment and discharge
- Experience as process design engineering lead on design-build or EPC projects is preferred
- Willingness to travel intermittently (20-30% maximum)
- Experience with hydraulic modeling and process simulation software (e.g., AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, Biowin, GPS-X, Hysys, Aspen, Wat Pro, AqMB, SIMBA, etc.) is preferred
- Regular, reliable attendance

- Ability to work during normal hours and to overtime/weekends as required
Base Compensation: $105,000 - $160,000
