Job Summary:
Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing estimating functions for a particular geographic location or segment of the company. The Renewable Energy Estimator reports to the Preconstruction Manager/Estimating Manager. You will have estimating experience in the utility-scale solar industry, including knowledge of DC, LVAC and MVAC electrical systems and plant design related to equipment & material selection, sub-contractor selection, energy production, cost of work and labor productivity to provide accurate cost estimates for solar construction projects.
You will oversee the preparation of estimates for bids and have knowledge of market pricing, construction means and methods, costs and engineering and industry principles. You will work with a client-focused approach as part of the project team.
- Review and understand content of all RFP documents to determine scope of work and required pricing elements for inclusion in the estimate. Handle complex project estimate assignments.
- Collaborate with contributing estimators and preconstruction team members on SOWs to prepare accurate estimates for Bid-Build and EPC (Engineer-Procure-Construct) RFPs.
- Develop RFQ packages to distribute to vendors and subcontractors. Analyze RFQ responses for accuracy, completeness and alignment with project schedule milestones.
- Complete take-offs to calculate estimate quantities and units of work for solar EPC self-perform ground-mounted solar & BESS mechanical and electrical scopes.
- Measure resources and production rates for utility-grade solar & BESS construction cost estimation.
- Determine impacts to estimates based on local labor requirements, current commodity pricing, and client specifications. Identify project risks and record in Risk Register.
- Create estimate-related bid proposals to meet RFP submittal requirements (SOV, client-provided forms, ACE documents).
- Follow safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions; use materials and equipment properly.
- Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary.
- Review milestone design documents to identify and price value-add opportunities to provide enhanced value to clients.
- Prepare contractual exhibits for subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Participate in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting by soliciting subcontractor support and evaluating bids.
- Attend industry events and represent Flintco professionally.
- Keep current with estimating technology and techniques.
- Support design reviews of electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and studies. Communicate with engineers and consultants to clarify scope, materials, and schedule requirements.
- Develop and input material data and assemblies into estimating software. Assist with final assembly of estimate for owner presentation. Collect and organize bid information for future reference. Aid field operations with change order pricing if needed. Help compile historical cost data.
- Use standardized processes to prepare accurate project cost and schedule estimates. Gather details and maintain current market data for costs. Participate in internal estimate reviews.
- Collaborate with Proposal Project Engineer, Proposal Scheduler and Proposal Coordinator to secure engineering support, resource duration, and proposal assembly.
- Present project scope, identified risks, and cost estimates for Operations and Executive reviews. Review estimate entries for accuracy and analyze multi-discipline estimated costs against RFP information and design to complete the estimate.
- Build relationships with subcontractors and vendors to obtain competitive advantages; maintain relationships with internal Flintco clients.
- Adhere to Safety programs and EEO/Affirmative Action programs. Other duties as assigned, including mentoring, collaborating with project teams, and coordinating with other departments and consultants.
Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts. Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts and coordinate team efforts. Experience with EPC and BOP estimate structures for large utility-scale renewable energy projects. Ability to propose alternative designs/scope definitions to support consistency, standardization, and cost competitiveness. Experience with utility-scale renewable energy construction, including BESS DC and AC systems, substations and transmission lines.
Familiar with design-build methods and producing production-based cost estimates with detailed costs. Complete…
