Position Overview
Traffic Engineer in Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is based in Lone Tree, Colorado. You will be part of our growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, MOT, pavement, utilities, drainage, roadway, rail, traffic, and materials disciplines. This design group is a leading-edge division focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. As an experienced Traffic Engineer, you will lead and mentor early-career engineers/designers and collaborate with our design centers to provide traffic engineering expertise for design/build and other delivery projects across North America.

LocationThis role is based in Lone Tree, Colorado. Relocation assistance is available for candidates outside the area.
Responsibilities- Lead or perform preliminary to final design tasks in two or more traffic engineering sub-disciplines for North America projects, coordinating with multi-disciplinary design teams: traffic operations and safety, traffic signal design, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design, tolling systems design & integration, signing and pavement markings, and roadway lighting/electrical design.
- Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure project elements are compatible.
- Contribute to the technical production and delivery of all traffic components for North America projects through coordination with multiple design teams.
- Analyze and evaluate complex design and construction phasing plans to formulate effective traffic engineering strategies, ensuring feasibility and safety compliance; lead project technical meetings and coordinate to resolve design issues; sign and seal final design of project traffic elements (traffic signals, signing and striping, ITS, illumination plans).
- Opportunities to supervise, mentor, and evaluate junior staff on production and delivery of project reports, plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic portions of infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering; emphasis in traffic engineering desirable.
- Minimum of 6 years of transportation project experience in North America, performing traffic design functions as outlined above.
- Professional Engineer licensure required. PTOE is recommended.
- Knowledge and experience in two or more traffic sub-disciplines: traffic operations and safety, traffic signal design, ITS design, tolling systems design & integration, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting/electrical design.
- Working knowledge of Micro Station/Open Roads Designer (ORD) or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
- Skills in traffic simulation/modeling software (e.g., Synchro/Sim Traffic, Vissim, Trans Modeler, HCS) desirable.
- Experience with AI agents/tools preferred.
- Regular, reliable attendance; ability to work productively and meet deadlines.
- Professional communication with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety and following oral and written instructions, including warning signs and equipment use.
- Ability to work during normal hours to complete work; overtime and weekends as required.
- Willingness to work at various locations and with varying conditions.
- Base Compensation: $115,000/yr - $145,000/yr (actual compensation varies by education, experience, skillset, and location).
