Project Engineer - Heavy Civil Infrastructure - Rocky Mountain Region

Position Overview

We are adding Project Engineers to our Central Division of Kiewit to support our expanding infrastructure portfolio. As a Project Engineer, you will manage the administrative and technical aspects of construction projects and lead a team of field and cost engineers.

Location

Lone Tree, CO and other Rocky Mountain locations as required.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Examine and inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost‑saving measures; take corrective actions.
  • Inspect subordinates’ work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, and take corrective actions as required.
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software.
  • Manage document control; receive, log, and update new issue drawings and contract documents.
  • Review new issue drawings and contract documents for changes of conditions; quantify impacts and review with supervisor.
  • Prepare monthly cost projections and quarterly cash‑flow projections.
  • Recommend improvements to project operations, including methods, staffing, and procedures.
  • Act as managing project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, providing supervision and training.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications; visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Manage and support the project team, including direct reports.
  • Support the company’s environmental health and safety programs at the project level.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in construction management, construction engineering, or related discipline plus a minimum of 5+ years of field and project engineering experience in self‑performed construction, with a focus on heavy civil works/infrastructure. If no degree, a minimum of 9+ years of experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience managing engineers with exposure to cost control and scheduling management.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for excellence and initiative.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player who can work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.

Base Compensation

$110,000 - $142,000 (subject to variation based on education, experience, skill set, and location).
