Position OverviewKiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join our Digital Delivery and Rail & Transit Systems Production team. In this role, you will support our rapidly expanding Infrastructure Design Department, which delivers innovative solutions across roadways, drainage, utility, structural, geotechnical, and rail disciplines. You will contribute to best‑in‑class design efforts that support design‑build infrastructure projects nationwide.
Responsibilities- Work as part of a multidisciplinary design team for heavy civil construction across Kiewit Construction Companies’ transit and rail business, including passenger, freight, industrial rail and site civil, roadway, drainage, and utility design.
- Prepare design plans, technical reports, and supporting documentation for a wide range of infrastructure projects.
- Develop preliminary and final design plans and details in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Participate in design reviews to evaluate concepts and make recommendations.
- Use Micro Station, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Open Rail/Open Roads Designer, Civil3D, and other civil engineering design software.
- Produce documents with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Follow Transit Agency, Railroad, and DOT Standards and company CAD Standards when applicable.
- Develop engineering plans, profiles, specifications, and estimates for transportation projects.
- Assist in co‑leading 1–2 designers on various tasks and projects.
- Help develop team software training materials.
- Associate’s degree in computer‑aided design, 3D modeling, drafting, survey, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in CAD, modeling, or drafting in the civil engineering field.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station (2D & 3D).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads, Bentley Open Rail/Open Roads Designer.
- Experience with 3D modeling tools such as Revit, Rhinoceros 3D, Navisworks (advantage).
- General knowledge of engineering principles and materials for civil work.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and discrepancy recognition.
- Critical thinking, planning, and conceptualization skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration with team members.
- Experience with AI agents and tools preferred.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Meet deadlines and perform work productively.
- Communicate and interact effectively with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and follow oral and written instructions and policies.
- Work during normal operating hours and be willing to work overtime and weekends as required.
- May work at various locations where conditions may vary.
Base Compensation: $62,000 – $76,000 per year (actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skill set, and location).
