Position Overview

Position:
Building Mechanical (MEP) Engineer. Provide design for a variety of industrial buildings across multiple market sectors. This role is intended for an experienced design engineer with a strong background in HVAC, piping, ventilation and plumbing systems, particularly in high‑reliability, mission‑critical environments. The engineer will work on fast‑paced EPC projects with multidisciplinary teams.

Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full‑service consulting and engineering firm. The Industrial and Water Engineering Group includes mechanical, process, electrical, controls, structural and architectural disciplines focused on EPC and design‑build delivery.

Location

Possible office locations:
Lenexa, Kansas;
Houston, Texas; or Lone Tree, CO. Hybrid work schedules may be considered. Relocation assistance is available to the Lenexa/Kansas City area.

Responsibilities
  • Design and layout mechanical systems and equipment for various building types, including HVAC systems, mechanical rooms, equipment pads, filtration, ductwork, and ventilation systems.
  • Prepare deliverables such as load calculations, equipment sizing, specifications, floor plans, details, equipment schedules, temperature controls, ventilation calculations, duct work, air handling and pipe sizing.
  • Review and approve 3D models and support procurement, bid packages, vendor selection.
  • Develop cost‑effective designs that meet reliability and safety standards.
  • Create construction documents, drawings, and specifications for HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
  • Perform system sizing calculations and equipment selection (chilled water, hydronic heating, steam, air‑side systems).
  • Apply industry codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, NRC, DOE).
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure deliverables meet contract and project requirements.
  • Support construction teams with RFIs, shop drawings, and project completion.
  • Conduct site visits, review installations, develop punch lists.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support engineering staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in building design.
  • PE license is a plus.
  • Experience with HVAC systems (chilled water, dehumidification, hydronic heating, steam, gas piping).
  • Proficiency in HVAC load modeling, psychrometric analysis, ductwork and pipe sizing.
  • Familiarity with building modeling software (e.g., Trane Trace 700, Carrier HAP).
  • Knowledge of high‑reliability environments (N+1, 2N redundancy, cleanroom standards, radiation shielding).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and design documentation tools.
  • Skills in reading and developing design drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Standards and applicable mechanical/plumbing codes.
  • Self‑motivated; able to lead and inspire others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience and interest in leading projects and teams.

Compensation

Base Compensation: $100,000 – $156,000. Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skill set, and location.
