Architect - Industrial Buildings

Location:

Position Overview:

Kiewit is hiring for several mid-career, experienced Architects to join our team to deliver design solutions for a diverse range of industrial buildings across multiple market sectors. In this role, you will work within the Kiewit Architect and Engineering Group as part of an overall project team overseeing the building's architectural design for various types of buildings and facilities across multiple market areas, within Kiewit.

This could include advanced technology (data centers/server rooms), nuclear buildings, hospitals, water/wastewater treatment facilities, large office buildings, University buildings, manufacturing, transportation structures, and industrial process buildings. You will be involved in delivering fast-paced projects, including coordination and collaboration with in-house project engineers and contractors to successfully execute building estimates, conceptual designs, and construction documents and administration.

District Overview:
Kiewit Architectural & Engineering (KAE) delivers fully integrated design and engineering solutions for some of North America's most complex and high visibility infrastructure, energy and building programs. Working hand in hand with Kiewit's construction operations, the group provides coordinated Progressive Design Build (PDB), Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) and other alternative delivery models, that reduces risk, accelerates delivery, and drives innovative, cost-effective outcomes.

Powered by a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and designers, KAE focuses on creating high performance, sustainable facilities across key growth markets including Power, Industrial, Nuclear, Federal, Aviation, Mission Critical, Healthcare, Sports & Entertainment, and Commercial Buildings. The team supports sophisticated projects in sectors such as government, nuclear, transportation/transit and education, delivering scalable, forward-looking solutions tailored to each client's operational, regulatory, and long-term needs.

Location:

This position may be based out of our Lenexa, KS, Lone Tree Colorado or Houston, TX offices. Opportunities for flexible/hybrid work are available for the Lone Tree and Houston campuses only. We do offer relocation to our Lenexa Kansas Industrial headquarters only.

Responsibilities
  • Support Lead Architect with Building code review, documentation, and life safety plan and development, as well as develop the conceptual building layout for in-house building design, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Support KAE standards development and process improvements.
  • Support lead architect with project estimate team coordination (other disciplines, estimate team, and designers) - Support lead architect with project design team coordination (other disciplines and designers) to deliver integrated building designs.
  • Deliver life safety and code analysis by reviewing codes and standards, coordinating related design items with Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), and communicating findings with the team.
  • Perform architectural design for the buildings using REVIT, balancing aesthetics, function, cost and functionality, and ensure the project complies with Kiewit standards while maintaining budget and schedule.
  • Perform checking and navigation in Navisworks for interferences.
  • Support, inform and advise the project team on the building design as it develops through the project life cycle. May provide alternative recommendations to the project team regarding project budgets and associated construction costs during the value engineering process.
  • Perform construction administration activities, and field work as required for project execution (submittal review, and RFI response).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited program is required.
  • Registered Architect with a current license preferred.
  • NCARB Certification preferred.
  • At least 5+ years of architectural design experience, working in a highly matrixed, multi-disciplined A/E firm or for a GC, performing functions as outlined above.
  • Will consider Architectural experience of all Building Types with the exception of residential and commercial.
  • Experience with Data Centers, Server Rooms, Buildings with unique ventilation and cooling systems, pre-Engineered metal buildings, modular construction, Federal or military facilities, Aviation, Sports, and nuclear facilities, hospitals, highly desired.
  • Experience with execution of all building project design phases from concept to construction is required.
  • Understanding pre-engineered metal buildings and modular design is a plus.
  • Proficient in Revit, Microsoft Office applications, Bluebeam, and Navisworks.
