Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead mechanical system design and third-party engineering coordination on hyperscale data center campuses (1GW+). This role is ideal for a client-facing leader with both engineering and project management experience, capable of guiding projects from early schematic design through execution. You will serve as a key interface between Kiewit, clients, and external engineering partners—ensuring mechanical systems are designed, coordinated, and delivered to meet the scale, reliability, and performance demands of mission-critical infrastructure.

The focus of this role is on MEP systems, with heavy emphasis on:

  • Chilled water systems
  • Cooling plants and cooling water infrastructure
  • HVAC systems and air-side design
  • Large-scale piping systems
  • Building Automation BMS and EPMS

You will play a critical role in shaping solutions for some of the most complex AI and hyperscale data center developments in North America, operating at gigawatt-scale capacity.

Why Kiewit
  • Work directly with clients during early design and solutioning phases—not just execution
  • Lead delivery on 1GW+ hyperscale campuses supporting AI and cloud infrastructure
  • Be part of an integrated EPC model that brings engineering and construction together
  • Join an employee-owned company where you have true ownership in outcomes
  • Collaborate with industry leaders across power, industrial, and mission-critical markets

At Kiewit, you won’t just review designs—you’ll help define them, influence strategy, and deliver infrastructure at a scale few organizations can match.

  • Lead coordination and oversight of third-party engineering firms delivering MEP designs
  • Partner with clients during early schematic and concept design phases to develop solution-driven system approaches
  • Manage and influence design for chilled water plants, cooling systems, HVAC, and piping infrastructure
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability (N+1 / 2N), scalability, and constructability requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to internal and external engineering teams
  • Collaborate with project management, construction, and estimating teams to align design with execution strategy and cost targets
  • Review designs, specifications, and submittals to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements
  • Support vendor and equipment selection for major mechanical systems
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal leadership teams
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and value
