Job Summary

The Electrophysiology (EP) Specialist assumes responsibility for the routine care and maintenance of radiological equipment, quality patient care, maintenance of required Cath lab and EP competencies, and assistance in all aspects of invasive or non‑invasive cardiac procedures.

Responsibilities
  • At all times maintains a professional public image, attitude toward visitors, patients, co‑workers, and medical staff; courteous, cooperative, compassionate, and discreet with patient privacy.
  • Provides primary and critical patient care and administers necessary medications per doctor’s orders while a patient is in the lab.
  • Checks emergency cart and controlled medications and documents per department guidelines.
  • Assists physicians with percutaneous or cut‑down procedures in a scrubbing, monitoring, or circulating capacity.
  • Opens and operates equipment necessary for all procedures in routine or emergency situations.
  • Starts IV infusion lines per physician order.
  • Maintains appropriate records and procedure log data collection.
  • Recognizes EKG rhythms, including intra‑cardiac rhythms.
  • Assists in patient education pre‑, peri‑, and post‑procedure.
  • Completes supply ordering, evaluates stocking needs daily, checks expiration dates on medications and reusable/disposable items.
  • Practices radiation safety and follows fire, safety, and infection control policies.
  • Prepares and operates sophisticated radiographic equipment including X‑ray table, camera, video recorders, ultrasound machine, and pressure injectors.
  • Works flexible schedule, including overtime when needed.
  • Participates in in‑service education.
  • Processes, files, and stores films in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned (e.g., patient charges, purchase orders, invoices).
  • Assists in transferring patients to and from the Cath Lab for procedures.
  • Reports to receiving nursing unit all specifics regarding procedures performed.
  • Completes special projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Provides age‑specific duties for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, including teaching, safety, privacy, disabilities, and patient support.
  • Monitors daily functions with infection control considerations.
  • Executes corrective/protective actions for hazardous materials and maintains up‑to‑date policies and procedures regarding safety.
  • Assists with quality assurance or performance projects as directed.
Position Requirements
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:
    Certified or registered in cardiovascular technology (RCIS, RCEP, or AART). Must possess BLS and ACLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Education:

    Graduate from an accredited school of cardiovascular technology or an equivalently accredited allied health program.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 2 years of cardiac catheterization laboratory or electrophysiology lab work experience.
