Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually
Experienced Tax AssociateThe role is a Core Tax Services position located in Long Beach, CA. The Tax Experienced Associate will support tax return preparation and research, and assist in ensuring compliance for clients while maintaining high service standards.
What you will doThe Tax Experienced Associate, Core Tax Services, will use their educational background and communication/organizational skills to assist with the preparation of tax returns and research. This includes using basic research skills and tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.
Tax Compliance- Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens; ensure firm policies and the BOOS Tax Quality Manual are followed.
- Apply understanding of each client’s unique circumstances, documentation, and legal requirements to prepare required filings (tax returns) while keeping reporting burdens low.
- Collect all needed data for filing, identify and communicate missing items to prepare returns.
- Use firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
- Collaborate with Senior on project completion, including follow‑up on open items.
- Document all significant tax positions.
- Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing current and future taxes.
- Apply knowledge of home state corporate, partnership, and individual tax structure and filing requirements in completing assigned work.
- Draft clear and concise general memorandums and correspondence.
- Identify potentially relevant tax issues or opportunities as part of the tax compliance process.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or statistics, OR a bachelor’s in another focus area plus CPA certification (or authorization to test for the CPA exam) required.
- Master’s in accountancy or taxation preferred.
- One (1) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience preferred.
- CPA certification, attorney admitted in a U.S. jurisdiction, or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent designation) preferred.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
- Solid oral and written communication skills.
- Able to follow instructions from members of the Tax Team.
- Able to prepare simple tax returns.
- Takes appropriate action without being asked.
- Seeks advice from superiors regarding compliance issues or problems.
