Overview
We are a rapidly growing, high-tech company in the new space sector and are seeking a strategic and operationally minded Vice President, Controller to lead the company's accounting organization during its next phase of growth and manufacturing scale-up. This executive will be responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, procurement-to-pay processes, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise with a proven ability to design and implement scalable processes, drive cross-functional change, and build high-performing teams in complex manufacturing environments.
This leader will serve as a key business partner to Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, and Executive Leadership, ensuring that accounting processes support operational excellence while maintaining strong financial controls and reporting integrity.
- Lead all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, inventory accounting, fixed assets, payroll accounting, consolidations, and financial reporting.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient financial reporting.
- Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Lead the company's cost accounting function, including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, overhead allocation methodologies, and manufacturing cost reporting.
- Develop deep visibility into manufacturing operations and cost drivers to improve cost accuracy, operational decision-making, and financial performance.
- Partner closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Production Planning, and Engineering teams to improve financial controls and operational processes across the organization.
- Evaluate, redesign, and optimize end-to-end procure-to-pay processes to improve efficiency, scalability, accuracy, and control.
- Drive cross-functional process transformation initiatives, ensuring successful implementation and adoption across the business.
- Establish scalable accounting and operational workflows capable of supporting rapid growth and increased manufacturing volume.
- Lead inventory accounting processes including cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliations, reserves, and inventory control procedures.
- Develop and implement key controls surrounding inventory movement, procurement, production, and manufacturing transactions.
- Partner with FP&A and Operations leadership to improve financial visibility, reporting, forecasting, and operational performance metrics.
- Build and maintain a strong internal control environment, including SOX compliance and audit readiness.
- Oversee relationships with external auditors and support annual audit activities.
- Lead the preparation and review of financial statements, management reporting packages, and board-level reporting material.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, tax, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Drive ERP optimization and system enhancement initiatives to improve data integrity, automation, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
- Develop KPIs and reporting frameworks that provide actionable insights into manufacturing performance, inventory management, and working capital.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting organization while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on accounting, controls, operational finance, and process improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including significant experience within complex manufacturing environments.
- Deep expertise in cost accounting, inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and manufacturing finance.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting organizations supporting large-scale manufacturing operations.
