. We are looking for a high-impact, meticulous, and leadership-oriented Controller to join our team in Long Beach and help drive our financial operations to the next level.
The Controller serves as the architectural link between our accounting staff and senior leadership. You will lead all aspects of Westland's accounting operations, ensuring that financial data is not only accurate and compliant but serves as a strategic asset for decision-making. This role oversees the production of periodic financial reports, maintains rigorous internal controls, and ensures our reporting accurately reflects the strength of our growing portfolio.

Duties & Responsibilities )
- Financial Leadership & Reporting: Manage month-end and year-end closing processes; oversee the preparation and consolidation of internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Team Mentorship: Supervise, coach, and mentor a high-performing accounting team, including Senior and Staff Accountants, fostering a culture of professional growth.

Risk Management:
Maintain and enhance accounting policies and internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the integrity of financial results. - Budgeting & Strategic Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting process and provide senior management with insightful variance analysis, financial trends, and actionable data.
- Cash & Treasury Oversight: Oversee daily cash operations, intercompany reimbursements, and operational cash flow monitoring to ensure liquidity and efficiency.
- Compliance & Technical Accounting: Ensure compliance with lender covenants (DSCR); manage accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions; and oversee property tax schedules, insurance renewals, and business tax returns.
- Systems Integrity: Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts within Entrata
, ensuring data integrity and optimizing the system for maximum departmental efficiency.
- Experience: 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/management role.
Real estate or property management industry experience is required. - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;
CPA license is highly preferred. - Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in property management software (
Entrata preferred) and high-level Excel skills. Proficiency in SQL is a plus. - Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of GAAP, internal control frameworks, and multi-state real estate financial regulations.
- Communication: Strong leadership skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting.
- A "results-oriented" approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative executive-facing team.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to thrive and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
