PositionSummary
The Jr. Counselor co‑leads, supports, and motivates campers throughout their camp experience. The Jr. Camp Counselor assists camp staff in planning, leading, and monitoring camp events to ensure campers have a safe and memorable experience. This is a great opportunity for older Girl Scouts to continue learning and growing within Girl Scouts and to learn the foundations of communication and leadership.
MarineLanding Day Camp
Marine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities include kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming. Every staff member at Marine Landing must be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins if needed. This camp is ideal for those who are comfortable in the water and want to spend the summer outside.
The camp operates with daily exposure to weather conditions and wildlife such as bugs, raccoons, and other common animals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in direction, supervision, and organization of campers to ensure program goals are met.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
- Be alert to campers’ needs to assist them with personal and/or health problems and discuss with camp supervisors when appropriate.
- Provide outstanding customer service to families.
- Be an inspiring role model by communicating clearly, building strong relationships, encouraging inclusivity, and motivating youth.
- Implement program activities within the GSGLA mission and goals.
- Co‑lead and support activity instruction.
- Actively and enthusiastically participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Assist in setup, break‑down, and maintenance of activity equipment.
- Participate in supporting evening programs, special events, and other activities involving the entire camp as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and weekly in‑service skills trainings as required.
- Assist where needed with camper "check‑in" and "check‑out".
- Provide evaluations when requested by the Outdoor Program Supervisor.
- Share observations and suggest improvements to the Outdoor Program Supervisor related to camp programming.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers and staff.
- Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and security protocols.
- Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times.
- Act as lifeguard during waterfront activities to ensure camper safety.
- Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to camp standards.
- Respond appropriately to changes in water or weather conditions.
- Facilitate swim tests to evaluate swimming abilities of campers and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Must have completed both the CIT 1 and CIT 2 programs at a GSGLA Camp.
- Must be entering 12th grade in the 2026‑2027 school year.
- Must obtain valid B1‑1 and B1‑4 work permits approved by the school.
- Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 15 2026 – August 21 2026) and training dates scheduled prior to camp.
- Must hold valid American Red Cross "Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Waterfront Skills" certification throughout the employment period. Training is available.
- Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
- Ability to sit, use the computer, stand, and walk throughout the facilities.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
- Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Comply with state‑mandated reporter training.
- Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned.
- Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check.
