Design-Build Apprentice

LOD1k is a boutique residential design-build company based in Long Beach, California. We design, document, and build one home at a time.

We're looking for an apprentice who is curious about how homes come together—not just on paper, but in reality. You will spend the next 6–12 months immersed in residential construction, dividing your time between modeling in Autodesk Revit and working on active jobsites. You'll learn how assemblies come together, how critical details are modeled and communicated, and how to develop a powerful feedback loop between your design intent and the experts in the field.

Develop the practical knowledge that comes from building with your own hands. Learn the language of materials, tools, sequencing, and craftsmanship by participating in real projects.

Use Autodesk Revit to model existing conditions, explore design ideas, develop construction details, and produce construction documents. Our process begins with the way a project will be built and works backward to inform every design decision made further upstream.

Develop a working knowledge of residential building codes, zoning requirements, and construction documentation. Collaborate with architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners as projects move from concept to completion.

We're a small company. That means you'll work closely with experienced professionals, receive direct and respectful feedback, and steadily take on more responsibility as your skills grow.
