Position Overview
Interior Designer under the Temporary Professional Staffing Services contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs at Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). The position is on-site, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, based at 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822. The role supports the Medical and Engineering Department across Capital Development, Projects & Construction, Business Management, and Maintenance & Operations sections, reporting to the respective Section Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Develop interior design solutions for healthcare and administrative spaces across major projects.
- Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, plans, sketches, and visual design presentations.
- Analyze architectural drawings and create FF&E layouts aligned with building codes.
- Interpret and review plans for compliance with VA standards and specifications.
- Produce procurement packages including scopes of work, specifications, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Manage procurement processes, vendor coordination, and delivery and installation schedules.
- Maintain design documentation, resource libraries, and project records for construction projects.
- Oversee installation activities, direct crews, and resolve punch list items.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and manage activation project schedules and communications.
- Assess operations, recommend improvements, and support transition and move‑in planning.
- Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Bachelor’s degree or 8–10 years of professional interior design experience.
- Familiarity with Patient‑Centered Care culture in healthcare.
- Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Skill in free‑form drawing and drawing to scale on site.
- Certification in Project Management, Evidenced‑Based Design, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or equivalent).
- Expertise in the selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Effective written and verbal communication with contractors, management, vendors, Contract Officers, and Long Beach staff.
- National Council for Interior Design Qualification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project and Revit (beneficial but not required).
