ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach City College is seeking a full-time tenured counseling faculty member to support the Early College Initiatives and Dual Enrollment programs through an eleven-month assignment position. Under the direction of the Dean of Counseling and Student Support Services, and in close collaboration with the Dean of Student Equity, the faculty member will provide academic, career, and personal counseling to students participating in early college pathways, while also supporting the coordination of program operations that promote equitable access and student success.

The primary assignment involves working directly with high school students who are enrolled in dual enrollment courses. Responsibilities include assisting students with onboarding, placement, academic planning, and career exploration. The faculty member will develop and update Student Educational Plans, deliver workshops for students and families, participate in outreach activities, and support academic progress for disproportionately impacted student groups.

The Counselor will collaborate extensively with LBCC departments, including Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Counseling, DSPS, Basic Needs, and Instruction to ensure smooth enrollment, registration, and support services for dual enrollment students. In partnership with the Dean of Student Equity and the Director of High School Outreach and Educational Partnerships, the faculty member will work with school districts and K-12 counselors to align pathways, schedules, and support structures.

Responsibilities include participating in the coordination and development of College and Career Access Pathway agreements, Instructional Service Agreements, and Memoranda of Understanding in accordance with state regulations such as AB 288, AB 132, SB 544, and SB 1244.

Additional responsibilities include contributing to the design and implementation of academic and career pathways for early college students, teaching counseling and guidance courses as assigned, engaging in curriculum and program development, and participating in department, division, and college-wide committees. The assignment requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, and a demonstrated commitment to equity-minded counseling practices.

This position may include evening, weekend, and off-site assignments at partner school locations as well as virtual program support, depending on the needs of the Early College Initiatives and Dual Enrollment programs.
