Long Beach, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB)
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Africana Studies with a specialization in Educational Leadership, Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field focusing on Africana education, to be completed by August 1 2026.
- Demonstrated potential or evidence of effective teaching at the college level.
- Demonstrated potential or evidence of successful research and scholarly publication and/or creative activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low‑socioeconomic and first‑generation students.
- Grounding in Afrocentric methods and approaches and in comparative Africana Studies.
- Potential for conducting comparative studies across Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Latina/o Studies, and/or Asian American Studies.
- Commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and intersectional methodologies from an Afrocentric standpoint.
- Experience mentoring Africana Studies students in applied and action research, service learning, community engagement, internship, study abroad, and other faculty‑directed student development activities.
- Experience working with Africana communities and community‑engagement research.
- Experience mentoring students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies.
- Commitment to using instructional technologies for in‑person, hybrid, and online courses.
- Experience working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.
- Teach existing courses and develop new courses in Africana Education and Africana Studies.
- Enhance curriculum development practices and data‑driven decision‑making, interdepartmental collaboration, and community engagement.
- Expand the department's high‑school and community‑college initiatives in Africana and ethnic studies.
- Collaborate with American Indian Studies, Chicana/o & Latina/o Studies, and Asian American Studies to support and develop courses satisfying the CSU Ethnic Studies requirement.
- Engage in research, scholarship, and creative activities leading to publications and presentations.
- Participate in service that supports and enhances the curriculum.
- Advise and mentor students.
- Participate in campus‑wide and system‑wide initiatives and organizations to enhance the educational experience.
- Student Success Statement (maximum two pages, single‑spaced) addressing teaching or other experiences with a diverse student population.
