Job Summary

The Undergraduate Academic Advisor advises undergraduate students on academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The advisor supports programs and initiatives to enhance the academic success and retention of COTA's undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Educate and advise students on their academic requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of admissions, advising, and enrollment policies and processes.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day coordination of the academic advising program.
  • Serve as a source of referral for academic and student support services.

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Compensation
  • Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $5,083 per month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional collaboration and communication skills, the ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, student organizations, and a wide range of university stakeholders. They are skilled in engaging and communicating with students from diverse backgrounds and are adept at delivering information through various presentation methods. They are capable of advising both individual students and groups on academic matters, integrating degree requirements to promote timely graduation, and competently handling academic petitions, waivers, and policy exceptions.

They possess strong analytical and decision‑making abilities, using critical and creative thinking to navigate complex or sensitive student situations with sound judgment and objectivity.

Education and Experience

Education:

  • Equivalently a four‑year college or university degree in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field.
  • Specialized professional experience that demonstrates the skills above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Experience:

  • Equivalent of two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field.
  • A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
