Job Summary

The purpose of this recruitment is to produce a pool of qualified applicants to call upon for temporary emergency Student Services Professional appointments which range from a duration of several days to a maximum of 120 days. A temporary/emergency appointment is generally utilized to cover an employee on leave of absence or to provide clerical support during a recruitment process subsequent to an employee's resignation.

Temporary/emergency appointments will be made in the appropriate job classification, depending upon the needs of the hiring department. You may be considered for available positions in any of these classifications depending on your qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from pre‑admission to the university through post‑graduation.
  • Assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; provide learning experiences that supplement classroom learning.
  • Provide information and guidance to students; assist them in thinking through problems and selecting suitable solutions and courses of action.
  • Evaluate student needs and authorize services; coordinate and administer programs, events, and projects.
  • Facilitate student involvement in campus life; advocate the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions, and challenges.
  • Serve as a "working supervisor" or lead person as required.
  • Communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community; follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies.
  • Contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a vision of excellence.

  • Student Services Professional I (A &

    B):
    Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • Student Services Professional II:
    General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments; advise students individually and in groups; make decisions and carry out actions with implications across program or service areas.
  • Student Services Professional III:
    Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of practices and trends in the Student Services field; ability to analyze complex situations and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems.
  • Student Services Professional IV:
    Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of the program area; general knowledge of public administration methods; advanced statistical and research methods; ability to carry out complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually and in groups; plan, coordinate, initiate actions for administrative or group decisions; analyze and define complex organizational or procedural problems and evaluate data.
