Student Success Coach – Long Beach City College

General Purpose

The Student Success Coach works within the Student Services Division—First Year Experience Program, Career Center, Transfer Center, Destino Center, Completion Counseling, etc.—to provide students with referrals to programs and services tailored to their needs. This in‑person role requires a maximum of 20 hours per week across Fall, Spring, and Summer terms (Winter optional) and may be positioned at the Liberal Arts Campus or the Trade, Technology, and Community Learning Campus.

    Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program.
  • $20.00 – $23.00 –
    Journey Level
    :
    Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in a Master’s program.
  • $23.00 – $26.00 –
    Advanced Journey Level
    :
    Master’s degree and enrolled in a Doctoral program.

Salary placement will be discussed with the hiring manager based on experience and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist students in practicing and applying academic responsibility skills.
  • Collaborate with the area lead to support Viking Advantage and Long Beach College Promise students in managing learning experiences and documenting progress.
  • Create and facilitate workshops and classroom presentations.
  • Plan and attend regularly scheduled meetings with assigned students and document meetings promptly.
  • Use technology to manage a caseload, improving academic outcomes and supporting matriculation steps, registration assistance, and eligibility verification for program benefits.
  • Manage a caseload on Starfish Early Alert to provide support and referrals to resource centers.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, such as events with the Office of Student Equity, chaperoning transfer tours, registration labs, and summer bridge programming.

    Education, Training, and Experience
  • Entry Level: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program.
  • Journey Level: Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in a Master’s program.
  • Advanced Journey Level: Master’s degree and currently enrolled in a Doctoral program.
  • For candidates pursuing a counseling route, current enrollment in a Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or Social Work from an accredited institution is required.

    • At least 1–2 years remaining in the degree program.
    • Full‑time enrollment during main terms with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Evidence of cultural competency and enthusiasm for serving diverse backgrounds, including students with differing abilities.
    • Prior attendance at a community college highly desired.
