Salary Range:
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $6,221 to $13,224 per month. The anticipated hiring range is $7,330 to $8,000 per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in mathematics education, statistics or data science education, or a related field with education research background; degree at time of application or completion by August 1, 2027.
• Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness and excellence in higher education that reflects an understanding of the impacts of race, ethnicity, and other identities on student experiences.
• Demonstrated potential for published scholarship in mathematics education.
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first‑generation students.

• Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or relevant experience in addition to a doctoral degree.
• Experience working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body and using culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies; record of teaching excellence in higher education.
• Potential to teach and engage in research within any subdiscipline(s) of mathematics education, especially complementing current faculty expertise.
• Potential to partner with diverse urban K‑12 school districts on grants and professional development activities.
• Potential to obtain external funding for mathematics education projects.
• Experience in scholarly communication in mathematics education (conference presentations, publications).
• Potential to supervise students’ mathematics education research projects.
• A record of contribution to service, including committee work and efforts to include equity and inclusion.

• Teach and develop equitable undergraduate mathematics courses for future mathematics educators and other students; instruction may include in‑person, hybrid, or online modes.
• Teach and develop graduate courses for the Master of Science in Mathematics for Educators.
• Contribute to departmental, university, and CSU efforts to develop, credential, and support diverse K‑12 mathematics teachers.
• Advise undergraduate and/or graduate students (academic advising, scholarly projects).
• Support department and university initiatives to improve graduation and passing rates, including curriculum development.
• Maintain and engage in impactful mathematics education scholarly activities such as publications and presentations that support student research opportunities.
• Seek grant funds to support mathematics education research and professional development of in‑service pre‑K‑12 teachers and/or CSULB faculty.
• Participate in service at all levels of the university and in the greater mathematics education community.
