About the College:
The College of Health & Human Services has 11 departments, including three clinical programs (Nursing, Physical Therapy, & Speech Language Pathology). We have 21 bachelor's degree programs, 22 master’s degrees, and three doctoral programs. We have over 8,000 students with the largest number of graduate students in the university (above 2200). We have over 2,200 affiliation agreements with community partners, including hospitals, clinical and internship sites.

  • A Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, emergency management or a related field; ABDs will be considered on the condition that official notification of completion of the doctoral degree can be provided by August 1, 2027.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching at the undergraduate or graduate levels
  • Demonstrated potential to conduct research and produce publishable manuscripts
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise (as demonstrated through previous research and/or teaching), in one or more substantive areas in criminology, criminal justice, or emergency management
  • Documented experience of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in multiple modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, in-person, etc.)
  • Record of scholarly publication commensurate with experience
  • A demonstrated commitment to and/or expertise in working in an environment that is committed to the teacher-scholar-mentor model of education
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

Duties:

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology, criminal justice, and/or emergency management. Teach courses in a variety of modes of instruction, including in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.
  • Mentor students in research, including master’s thesis supervision
  • Develop relationships with faculty in related disciplines and/or local agencies or community groups so that interdisciplinary academic/practitioner partnerships can be formed to further the mission of the School
  • Contribute to the growth of the School, including through developing its curricular offerings
  • Engage in scholarly activities leading to refereed publications
  • Participate in service to the school, college, university, profession, and community
  • The successful candidate is expected to teach in the core curriculum of the undergraduate and graduate programs and to teach elective offerings that reflect their area(s) of research and teaching expertise
