Job Overview
This is a hands-on safety role, where you'll be the main point of contact for all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) matters. You’ll work across office spaces, research labs, and automotive garages, ensuring all safety standards are met and continuously improved. Expect to travel up to 20% of the time between sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage SHE programs and policies.
- Lead safety inspections and investigations.
- Deliver SHE-related training.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Serve as point of contact for safety with internal teams, contractors, and government regulators.
- Oversee safety practices for construction and routine projects.
- Track safety metrics (KPIs), analyze trends, and report to leadership.
- Participate in regular meetings (weekly, monthly) and safety councils.
Education and Experience
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree (Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering) + 3 years of SHE experience in manufacturing, automotive, or industrial settings. - OR a Master’s + 1 year of experience
- OR equivalent work experience in lieu of formal education
Must-Have Skills
- Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Experience with PPE, Lockout/Tagout, confined space, power tools, hot work
- Proven success leading multi-departmental SHE projects
- Knowledge of air, water, waste regulations, SPCC plans, and fire codes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal
- Able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage safety programs
- Comfortable working across all levels—from shop floor to leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Familiarity with management systems like ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, VPP
Working Conditions
- Office, lab, and garage environments
- Must be able to lift small packages, walk short distances, and drive
- Must respond to safety matters 24/7 via company cell phone
Team & Communication
- Weekly 1-on-1 meetings with hiring manager (HM)
- Weekly team and safety meetings
- Monthly organization-wide meetings
- Onsite collaboration with HM and safety team
