The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for independently managing highly technical engineering projects, providing advanced design and execution expertise, and serving as the primary technical liaison for customers. This role requires full ownership of project delivery, advanced problem-solving, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. The Senior Project Engineer ensures compliance with codes, standards, and Envent procedures, and contributes to process improvement and innovation initiatives.
The position requires both office and field work, including travel and direct technical oversight at project sites. This is not a hybrid or remote role; field presence is expected.
Essential duties may vary according to region, division, area, and/or assignment. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lead complex engineering projects from concept through commissioning with minimal oversight.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules; ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Apply industry standards and codes (NFPA, ANSI, API, NEC, IEC) in project execution.
- Oversee fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Act as the primary technical contact for key clients and major projects.
- Lead customer meetings, present technical solutions, and resolve complex issues.
- Provide advanced design of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; implement corrective actions.
- Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (HAZOP, fault tree, what-if, etc.).
- Manage all Management of Change (MOC) documentation and compliance reviews.
- Provide direct technical supervision for complex field setups and troubleshooting.
- Mentor and coach Project Engineer I and II staff.
- Support training programs and contribute to internal standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEA Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or related discipline) from an accredited institution is required. The position requires five to eight or more years of engineering experience in petrochemical, refining, or related industries. Candidates should be experienced hires with six to ten years of industry experience, including direct interaction with regulatory bodies in both the United States and Canada.
An Environmental and/or Chemical Engineering degree is preferred. The role also requires familiarity with key regulatory agencies such as the EPA, TCEQ, AQMD/APCD, SCAQMD, and ECCC, among others.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate through written and verbal forms, interact with all levels of customer and company management, and present information to management, public groups, and fellow Associates.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently with accountability for results.
- Flexibility to support a 24/7 operation, including off‑hours and weekends.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Associate must maintain a valid driver’s license. Professional Engineer’s certification is preferred but not required.
