We are seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer with experience in Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) or gas processing systems for a client in Long Beach, California
.
This role will support project development and execution by providing technical leadership in process design, due diligence, commissioning, and operational optimization. The successful candidate will act as a key technical resource across RNG projects from early-stage evaluation through startup and steady-state operation.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Serve as subject matter expert for RNG process engineering activities
- Review and redline:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Mass & energy balances
- Equipment datasheets and calculations
- Ensure designs comply with internal standards, ASME, NFPA, and industry best practices
Project Development & Execution
- Perform site evaluations and technical due diligence
- Collaborate with project, mechanical, electrical, civil, and controls engineers
- Participate in interdisciplinary design and constructability reviews
- Support technology selection and process optimization
Commissioning & Operations Support
- Participate in commissioning and startup of RNG facilities
- Troubleshoot process and operational issues
- Analyze plant performance data and identify optimization opportunities
- Support operating assets through process improvements and debottlenecking
Safety & Risk Management
- Participate in HAZOPs, PSSRs, and operability assessments
- Lead or support root cause investigations
- Identify and mitigate process risks through engineered solutions
- Provide technical mentoring and training
- Contribute to engineering standards and best practices
- Prepare technical documentation and commissioning materials
- Act as technical liaison with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 8 years of process engineering experience
- Experience in RNG, biogas, gas processing, or oil & gas industries
- Strong knowledge of:
- Landfill gas or anaerobic digestion systems
- Gas upgrading and CO₂ removal
- H₂S, VOC, and siloxane removal
- Compression and pipeline injection systems
- Advanced PFD & P&w capability
- Experience with process modeling tools (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or equivalent)
- Hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
