Sr. Estimator - Underground

Position Summary

The primary objective of this role is to prepare cost estimates for underground construction projects.

• Consult with vendors, personnel in other departments or construction superintendent/engineers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• Analyze plan documents and other data to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
• Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
• Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
• Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components
• Work with estimating team to help predict project time‑scales, which has a considerable bearing on costs
• Establish likely progress and completion rates, including allowances for bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances
• Calculate a final figure for the estimated cost, supplement with adjustments for overheads and profit, and present a tender price
• Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management; travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, etc.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline is required
• 5+ years underground estimating experience required

• Travel will be required to attend training and meetings
• Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift
• Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb
• Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly

Salary Range $109,854 - $161,550
