Senior Mechanical Engineer, Vehicle Fluids

Long Beach, California, United States

Compensation: $132, USD / year

Design and validate vehicle fluid components for Terran R propulsion systems and overall fluid architecture About the Role

Responsible for hardware design and implementation of hardware into vehicle fluid systems, ensuring reliable and efficient operation of the Terran R launch vehicle.

Primary tasks include:

  • Design and analysis of clean‑sheet pressure components for launch vehicle fluid and propulsion systems.
  • Detailed fluid, thermal, and structural analysis of parts and assemblies.
  • Development and qualification test planning and execution of internally developed components.
  • Conducting trade studies to produce architectures and designs that satisfy system requirements.
About the Team

The Stage Fluids team owns design, production, test, and flight of propellant, pressurant, pneumatics, and other fluid systems that transform structures into functioning rockets. Working on‑site at the factory allows rapid iteration and tight feedback loops across design and manufacturing. Team members ask the right questions, collaborate across the company, and find the best solutions for Terran R.

About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing fluid system components.
  • Direct experience applying engineering fundamentals in thermodynamics, structures, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience with CFD and FEA tools (ANSYS).
  • Project experience: commercial CAD packages (NX, Creon, Solid Works); design of fluid system pressure components (fittings, seals, valves, regulators, etc.) and qualification for aerospace applications; use of FEA tools (ANSYS, FEMAP) to analyze component structural margins.
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with internal flow CFD to assess component performance.
