Overview

We are seeking experienced, lead, and senior level Avionics Systems Engineers to join our Commercial Modifications Engineering team in Long Beach, California. The role encompasses the design, development, and maintenance of electronic and electrical product details for a diverse range of commercial aircraft, including retrofitting existing airframes with advanced avionics and connectivity systems.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical installations and subsystems (equipment racks, power panels, cable routing, antenna configurations) from requirements through release.
  • Produce and maintain detailed designs, drawings, and BOMs for cable and wire‑harness assemblies and associated electrical hardware.
  • Collaborate with customers and suppliers to refine and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements and interfaces.
  • Translate requirements into system architecture and clear hardware/software interface specifications.
  • Review and validate supplier technical data and deliverables to ensure proper system integration and compliance with requirements.
  • Lead and execute test, verification, and validation activities to confirm designs meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Lead technical support and troubleshooting for in‑service systems at customer and modification sites.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams in an agile environment, employing contemporary tools and design methods to deliver solutions.
  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure integration and compliance with requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design quality, manufacturability, and efficiency.
  • Research emerging technologies for potential application and recommend improvements or technology investments to support project goals.
  • Apply verification, validation, certification, and qualification processes and procedures (e.g., DO‑160, DO‑178C, D6) and understand governing regulations and compliance requirements.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite and is for 1st shift.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a non‑US equivalent qualification directly related to the work statement.
  • Three or more years of experience reading, interpreting basic engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Three or more years of experience using 3‑D CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics) and/or other design methods.
  • Three or more years of experience designing, specifying, and testing equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., RTCA DO‑160, DO‑178C).
  • Experience installing aircraft modifications, including fabricating and installing wiring, connectors, electrical components, or avionics boxes.
  • Three or more years of full‑time aerospace industry experience within Avionics, Electrical, Software, Cabin Systems, In‑flight Entertainment Systems, Connectivity Systems, or Electro‑Magnetic Effects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of higher education and/or related work experience.
  • Ten or more years of higher education and/or related work experience.
  • Ability to visualize complex systems and apply systems‑thinking principles to accelerate decision‑making and performance.
  • Strong analytical skills: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design).
  • Demonstrated engineering judgment in developing decisions while considering criteria, implications, and consequences, ensuring product design integrity.
  • One or more years experience with MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑1275, MIL‑STD‑461, DO‑160, DO‑178, IEC‑61000, and/or FCC Part 15.
  • One or more years leading an integrated product team of engineers, supplier management, and quality specialists to deliver certified hardware.
  • Experience with Equipment Manager responsibilities for electrical components.
