Senior Traffic Engineer position in Public Works Department. Responsible for leading traffic engineering activities, overseeing design processes, conducting research, preparing reports, managing staff and budget, and presenting to stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Supervise engineering and administrative staff within Traffic Engineering and Harbor Division
- Oversee design of signage, striping, traffic control, signal timing, ITS
- Conduct traffic and transportation research, analysis, planning, and design
- Prepare and review project reports, plans, specifications, estimates, grant applications, and progress reports
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff and consultants/contractors
- Assist in division budgeting and presentation to Council, management, commissions, community groups
- Respond to public, council, and City Department inquiries and work requests
- Act as City Traffic Engineer in absence of primary officer
- Current registration as a Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer in California (proof required)
- Five or more years of professional traffic/transportation engineering experience after graduation or E.I.T. exam, with at least one year at a position equivalent to Traffic/Transportation Engineer or requiring a professional license
- Proof of educational qualifications (degree, transcripts, equivalency if foreign)
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Personnel supervision and staff development
- Ability to work irregular schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and fieldwork
- Valid driver's license and current DMV record
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
- Roadway Safety Professional (RSP) certification
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Khmer, or Tagalog
