Structure & Payload Design Engineer (Payload Systems Design) (Associate)
Location:
Long Beach, CA. 100% onsite.
Role overview:
This position is a dynamic Galley Insert Engineer requiring collaboration with internal and external cross‑functional teams. Core responsibilities include developing, integrating, and documenting structural and interior payload system requirements; designing and modifying basic structural and interior payload system and component designs using CAD tools; testing and validating systems and components; supporting supplier development and production activities; and investigating emerging technologies for future product designs.
Responsibilities
- Manages program activities and collaborates with all stakeholders in the value stream to meet on time delivery commitment
- Coordinates and manages multiple Galley Inserts qualification programs simultaneously
- Reviews and approves supplier technical data and hardware for compliance with FAA, Customer and Boeing specifications
- Works with technical experts to ensure proper test and certification requirements, and develops designs and analysis processes to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the programs
- Engages with factory personnel to ensure seamless installation and integration of the galley inserts
- Applies engineering principles to investigate technical inquiries, deviations, customer specific inquiries, non‑conformances, operational and quality issues
- Works under general supervision
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Material Sciences)
- 2+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification
- 2+ years of experience in Aircraft Interiors Design and Certification
- 2+ years of experience designing payload structures and/or payload mechanical assemblies
- 5+ years of higher education and/or related work experience
- Working knowledge of Airplane Payloads and Interiors
- Working knowledge of FAA and/or EASA transport category aircraft program regulations
- Working knowledge of managing supplier activities
- Working knowledge of CSDT (Customer and Supplier Data Transmittal)
- Working knowledge of ETAC (Engineering Tracking and Control)
- Working knowledge of PDM (Product Data Manager)
- Working knowledge of IVT (Integration Visualization Tool)
- Experience with CATIA V5 (or equivalent 3D CAD design software)
- Working knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Willing and able to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally
- Working knowledge of program management/project management
- Working knowledge of working with and partnering with cross‑functional teams on projects and initiatives
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings review and release process
