Position Overview
C-17 Avionics Design and Analysis Engineer 4/5 (Electronic Sys Design & Analysis). The Boeing Company Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking a skilled Avionics Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Long Beach, CA. This position is part of the C-17 Military Airlifter Program within the Avionics/Flight Management & Software Engineering organization. As an Avionics Systems Engineer, you will apply your engineering knowledge, principles, tools, and techniques to implement a series of upgrades and improvements to the C-17 Globe master III aircraft.
PositionResponsibilities
- Apply engineering knowledge and principles to upgrade the C-17 flight management system and other avionics systems.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements.
- Analyze and translate requirements into system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
- Oversee, test and validate system designs to ensure they meet operational and functional requirements.
- Provide field support for hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.
- Demonstrate a commitment to personal learning and development, seeking feedback and applying continuous improvement.
- Understand and apply systems thinking to anticipate future events and accelerate performance.
- 5 or more years of industry experience in design and implementation.
- Work‑related programming experience with Ada, C, C++, C#, Java, FORTRAN, or Python.
- Knowledge of requirement derivation, allocation, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ability to conceive, develop, optimize, maintain, and modify electronic/electrical system designs based on requirements.
- Experience with technical coordination with internal and external suppliers and customers.
- Knowledge of verification, validation, certification, and qualification processes and governing regulations.
- Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or a non‑US equivalent qualification directly related to the work statement.
- 10 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Level
5). - Experience working with DOORS to generate and analyze system requirements.
- Experience with Waterfall, Agile Processes, and project management tools including Confluence, Jira, Version One.
- Experience with MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429 communication protocols.
- Experience with RTCA DO-178, DO-254, and DO-160.
- Experience with MIL-HDBK-516C.
- Military/Commercial Aircrew experience, Private Pilot License, or Flight Instructor certification.

Requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre‑Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post‑Start required.
