This role requires expertise in electrical systems, vehicle networking, systems engineering, and hardware-software integration. The successful candidate will lead subsystem integration activities from concept through production, ensuring system performance, reliability, safety, and compliance with vehicle program requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Drive the electrical architecture strategy for body control subsystems, performing trade studies to optimize cost, weight, performance, and scalability.
- Author hardware and functional specifications to ensure subsystem components meet vehicle behavior requirements and user expectations.
- Lead end-to-end integration of body controls hardware and software across benches, bucks, labcars, prototype vehicles, and production vehicles.
- Translate high-level system objectives into actionable requirements for suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain logical and physical interface documentation, including block diagrams, boundary diagrams, and network artifacts.
- Serve as the primary technical lead for diagnosing and resolving complex system-level issues involving hardware, software, and network interfaces.
- Perform root cause analysis using first-principles engineering methodologies.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate firmware functionality, performance, stability, and edge-case behavior under varying operating conditions.
- Support validation activities related to low-power modes, communication networks, and vehicle operational scenarios.
- Collaborate with software integration, systems engineering, and architecture teams to align software requirements with electrical hardware specifications.
- Participate in vehicle development activities throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.
- Apply functional safety principles and support safety analyses to ensure compliance with vehicle safety requirements and homologation standards.
- Support supplier management activities, technical reviews, and subsystem integration efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in complex electrical systems design and integration from concept through production.
- 7+ years of experience working with vehicle network protocols, including CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
- Strong understanding of electrical hardware fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience using electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), signal generators, and power supplies.
- Experience using requirements management tools such as JAMA or equivalent platforms.
- Experience creating and modifying network interface description files and related system documentation.
- Strong knowledge of systems development processes, vehicle architecture, diagnostics, networking, and functional safety methodologies.
- Experience developing and integrating body control hardware components in prototype and production environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience developing test plans and validating complex electrical and embedded systems.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Experience with Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA).
- Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, system debugging, and in-vehicle troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of hardware-to-software interfaces, including RTOS and driver development.
- Experience performing technical trade studies and cost-benefit analyses.
- Ability to present technical recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Experience working with electrical and electromechanical systems utilizing networked microcontrollers and embedded software.
- Knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety standards and automotive safety compliance processes.
