The primary role of the Senior Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager with the planning and daily execution of the construction project. The engineer is responsible for maintaining aspects of the project schedule, managing submittal approvals, coordinating timely delivery of materials, and maintaining schedules and budgets.
Essential Functions Project Financial Responsibilities- Proactively manage the project budget, controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, identifying work not covered by subcontractor scope, and ensuring support functions for cost and schedule success.
- Establish procedures for controlling contract drawings.
- Initiate setup of the job management system.
- Assist with scopes of work, bid package development, and solicit subcontractors and suppliers.
- Initiate building permit process.
- Actively administer, review, and process all submittal data and shop drawings to expedite project schedules and ensure on-time material delivery.
- Conduct preconstruction meetings with subcontractors, assisted by the Project Manager and/or Superintendent.
- Serve as onsite quality manager for assigned trades, verifying subcontractor deliveries meet approved submittal requirements.
- Attend and participate in meetings with Architect/Engineer and owner representatives; provide information and assist the Project Manager in preparing progress reports and meeting minutes.
- Distribute proposal change documents to subcontractors/suppliers and assist in collecting pricing or preparing change proposal requests for internal pricing review.
- Ensure all clarifications, changes, directives, RFIs, etc., are updated on the as-built drawings and fully coordinated with company supervision and all subcontractor/suppliers.
- Submit owner-required close-out documents and assist subcontractors/suppliers in scheduling owner-required training and documentation.
- Perform other duties as required.
B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. 7 to 10 years of construction experience preferred; heavy civil construction experience a plus.
- Organize people, tools, and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to achieve desired results.
- Make decisions under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
- Demonstrate commitment to quality by evaluating project-related processes and implementing necessary changes, using customer input to improve and exceed expectations.
- Act with integrity, supporting company values while maintaining focus on customer requirements.
- Show proficiency using personal computers and company communication tools such as email, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); CAD and Primavera a plus.
