Administrative Intern

The Port of Long Beach is seeking an administrative intern in the Port Planning Division. This is an at-will position with an hourly wage of $25.08. The Port Planning Division is organized around three functional groups:
Strategic Plan & Land Use Group, Economics & Funding Group, and Transportation Development Group.

The role of the Port Planning intern includes supporting short- and long-range planning efforts that inform future land use development and infrastructure improvements at the Port. This includes reviewing and analyzing transportation and goods movement issues, assembling, organizing, evaluating, and presenting data for use in Port economic, land use and transportation studies, regional transportation studies, and/or grant applications, analyzing regional, state and national transportation policies and programs and assessing their impact or benefit to the Port and its stakeholders, assisting in research and review of transportation policy, assisting in the preparation, review, and update of planning documents and programs, supporting managing the Port's Port Master Plan and Port's Risk Management Plan (RMP) in accordance with the California Coastal Act (CCA), assisting in the review, analysis, and preparation of land use studies for Port facilities, conducting or assisting in the analysis of regulatory, legislative, and permitting issues, assisting with Geographic Information System (GIS) data collection, organization, and mapping, assisting in gathering, analyzing, and presenting input/output from the Land Use Model (LUM), which includes the Integrated Land Use Tool (ILUT) and the Port Terminal Capacity Model (PTCM), assisting in collecting information on terminal throughput, berth, and land utilization in the Port, assisting in the preparation of market, planning, and logistics studies, including research, technical analyses, and documentation preparation, assisting with Request for Proposals, task authorizations, and related project documents, assisting in coordination with Port consultants and outside agency representatives, preparing reports and correspondence, and performing other related duties as required.

Required experience and qualifications include being a current student enrolled in an accredited college or university with 60 completed units or more, or completion of a Bachelor's degree in the last 12 months. A major in Urban and Regional Planning/Policy or a closely-related field is preferred. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and areas of technical expertise is required.
