Position Summary
The Tax Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Company’s federal, state, and local tax compliance and income tax accounting across multiple legal entities. This role partners closely with Accounting, Finance, and external tax advisors to ensure accurate tax filings, tax provisions, and supporting documentation. The Tax Accounting Manager will also support audits, acquisitions, and ongoing process improvements within a growing healthcare organization.
Responsibilities- Review, validate, and manage the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns prepared by external tax consultants for multiple entities (C-corps, partnerships, and LLCs).
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate tax filings.
- Review and validate quarterly and annual income tax provisions prepared by external tax consultants in accordance with ASC 740, with a future transition of quarterly provision preparation to internal accounting management.
- Support monthly and quarterly close processes related to tax accruals, reserves, and reconciliations.
- Prepare tax-related journal entries and maintain supporting work papers and documentation.
- Oversee compliance with business tax filings, including franchise taxes, gross receipts taxes, and other state and local business‑related tax filings.
- Manage annual information reporting requirements, including Forms 1099 and other applicable tax reporting.
- Monitor state nexus, apportionment, and compliance requirements.
- Support tax due diligence and integration activities related to acquisitions.
- Assist with indirect taxes (sales/use, payroll, and other taxes) as applicable.
- Coordinate responses with external tax consultants for tax notices, audits, and information requests from federal, state, and local taxing authorities, including gathering and validating supporting documentation. Improve tax processes, documentation, and internal controls in collaboration with the accounting team.
- Support ERP and system implementations impacting tax reporting, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive tax and/or tax accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of federal and multi‑state income taxation.
- Experience supporting audits and working with external tax advisors.
- CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation (MST).
- Strong experience with ASC 740 income tax accounting.
- Healthcare, managed care, or multi‑entity organizational experience.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or complex organizational structures.
