Join the California State University, Office of the Chancellor as a Civil Rights Investigator
. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefits package that includes generous vacation, comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits, a tuition waiver program (also applies to eligible family members), membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and 15 paid holidays a year.
Salary up to $110,004 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Work Arrangements flexibility to telecommute two days a week, with three days on-site at the main headquarters.
Classification Administrator II
- Investigate claims of protected status discrimination and harassment, sexual misconduct, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation in a fair, impartial and timely manner.
- Identify and interview relevant parties and witnesses; gather directly related evidence from various sources.
- Document all investigatory meetings.
- Compose and send appropriate correspondence with parties, advisors, and others regarding investigations and the formal and informal resolution processes.
- Document investigation steps in the applicable case management system.
- Prepare detailed investigation reports, including credibility assessment and findings of fact.
- Prepare periodic investigation updates for the Systemwide Senior Director for Investigations and Resolutions and other stakeholders.
- Appear at hearings conducted under the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy to provide information on investigations.
- Assist the Systemwide Senior Director in assessing intake information for remedial actions and determining responses to requests for investigations or supportive measures.
- Facilitate the informal resolution of complaints when appropriate.
- Occasionally participate in or facilitate training for university management, faculty, staff and students.
- Stay current on applicable laws (federal and state) and trends in litigation, as well as CSU executive orders and policies.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- One to three years of experience conducting civil rights investigations in a higher education environment.
- Knowledge of Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and related state laws such as FEHA.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with a diverse set of professionals.
- Master’s degree in a related field or a Juris Doctorate (JD) is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws, as well as CSU policies pertaining to workplace complaints and investigations.
- An understanding of the higher education environment and a unionized environment.
- Excellent knowledge of investigatory methods and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the application of trauma-informed practices.
- Excellent interviewing and investigatory skills.
- Ability to manage an ongoing and complex caseload of investigations, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations.
- Strong case management skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate policy information to a wide variety of constituents in concise, logical and grammatically correct reports that convey complex and sensitive issues.
- Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse university community.
