Shift: Days (10hr), 3 days x 10hrs
Pay Range*: $43.13/hr – $62.55/hr.
$2,500 signing bonus available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements.
Position SummaryProvides competent respiratory care by applying technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to evaluate, stabilize, prevent, and treat cardiopulmonary conditions. Recognizes personal limitations and seeks assistance when appropriate, while adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates developing proficiency in prioritization, adaptability, and clinical judgment. Competence is reflected in the ability to manage changing patient conditions, maintain control in varied situations, and deliver safe, effective care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job- Provides efficient patient care in emergent and non-emergent situations by administering medication and performing therapeutic/diagnostic interventions in accordance with Respiratory Care Services policies and procedures. Acts as a clinical resource to other Respiratory Care Practitioners and house staff on an as‑needed basis.
- Provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to evaluate patients by using equipment appropriately in the delivery of patient care. Constantly decontaminates equipment and supplies within the department according to department policies and procedures.
- Assists in implementation of plan for teaching patient/family/significant other knowledge and skills essential for managing illness.
- Actively identifies patients with healthcare‑associated infections by applying infection control policies and procedures consistently, including effective hand hygiene and utilizing personal protective equipment.
- Identifies and reports problems through department‑specific channels to assist with the resolution of problems. Participates in department‑specific performance improvement projects.
- Performs accurate and timely documentation and billing for all interventions in the patient’s medical record consistent with scientific principle, standards of respiratory care practice and hospital policy.
- Performs skills at 80% proficiency and 20% novice. Validation of these competencies will be by direct observation, simulation or training.
- Acts as preceptor to new staff and validates new staff competency. Acts as relief coordinator or team leader on an as‑needed basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 1 year respiratory therapy in acute care hospital experience preferred.
- Minimum 1 year respiratory therapy in adult critical care preferred.
- Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by a governing body which allows practice in the State of California required.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential for candidates hired on or after January 1, 2014 required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
