• Ph.D. in Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2027.
• Demonstrated proficiency in English and at least two of the following Romance languages:
  French, Italian, and Spanish, with the ability to teach translation between English and those languages
• Formal training and professional experience in translation
• Background or formal training in interpreting
• Experience teaching translation theory and practice at the university level
• Demonstrated expertise in computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, machine translation, and post-editing workflows
• Evidence of scholarly publication and an active research agenda in Translation Studies or a related field
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience training professional translators in academic or industry settings
• Experience supervising graduate research, including MA theses
• Experience in academic program or curriculum development
• Experience adapting curricula to emerging technologies, professional standards, and global market changes
• Record of international collaboration and established professional networks within the translation and interpreting community
• Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
• Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

Duties:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Translation Studies, including translation theory and methodology; literary translation in English-French, English-Italian, and English-Spanish language pairs; specialized and professional translation; CAT tools; machine translation and post-editing; and translator training and professional practice. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
• Integrate interpreting studies into translation curricula where appropriate and collaborate with faculty in interpreting in the MA in Translation and Interpreting
