Night Shift Manager

Manage IAM mechanics and foremen, who service and/or repair chassis’, refrigerated units, yard equipment, trucks and faculties maintenance. Manage day or night shifts departments to include Power Shop, Reefers, Cranes, Parts and Chassis departments. Management involves the education and enforcement of safe working practices and coordination with the Operations Department, within a union and non-union environment.

• Manage IAM mechanics including disciplining and termination, as needed.
• Manage productivity and related documentation of Power Shop, Reefer, Cranes, Parts and Chassis Department.
• Interview and hire potential candidate(s).
• Enforce worker compliance with established safety rules, practices, and regulations.
• Prioritize the relevant M&R work, and keep all parties involved advised of status.
• Ensure that all repair and service work orders, including pending, are processed in a timely and accurate manner and completed documentation is forwarded promptly for invoice processing.
• Ensure assigned work is scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
• Complete daily turnover report for work accomplished, still pending and relate any unusual incidents.
• Communicate directly with Vessel/CY/Train Departments as to any necessary services and repairs required.
• Learn, understand and enforce all personnel requirements, government and union contracts as they relate to the terminal operation.
• Responsible for first line customer interaction and resolution for M&R departments.
• Schedule and monitor vendor activities as directed.
• Assist foremen with accurate payroll reporting and training, as needed.

• Prefer a relevant B.A. or B.S. degree from a 4-year institution, or 2-year degree with 2 years transportation, technical or engineering related experience, or 3-years relevant work experience, preferably in a union environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Must be able to learn and use Company proprietary software.
• Experience with Maintenance & Repair billing, and inventory control software, a plus.
• Must be able to multi-task with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work accordingly.
• Ability to read manuals, drawings, schematics, blue prints and research technical matters to stay current with applicable technical and industry changes.
• Ability to teach and keep staff technically up-to-date.
• Ability to speak, write clearly and authoritatively.
• Ability to analyze, process operations data and present results.
• Ability to manage staff and complete projects cost effectively.
• Remain calm, functioning and analytical under pressure.

• Work as necessary for a 24/7 operation.
• Travel as necessary, sometimes on very short notice.
• Drive a vehicle and maintain a valid California driver’s license while employed.
• Climb stairs and traversing uneven surfaces.
• Work at heights, e.g. cranes.
• Sit, walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Use computer(s), communication and related equipment and software effectively.
• Bend, reach, pull, push, scoot, climb ladders and lift up to 45 pounds.
