Overview

Long Beach, California

At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you’ll solve problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up.

Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and gaining momentum.

The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team

The engine manufacturing department’s mission is to produce high performing products and manufacturing systems by continuously innovating on cost, quality, and lead time. Through cross-functional collaboration, accountability, and a focus on safety we support the Terran R program. We provide design feedback on new hardware iterations, develop new manufacturing methods and systems, and build engine and vehicle hardware for testing prior to our first launch.

Highlights from the last 6 months include the MDC of the first Aeon-R engine, thousands of hours of PBF printing, building and testing over 50 valves of 26 different iterations, and implementing large-scale process improvements.

About the Role

Senior Propulsion Technician will be on the front line of fabrication and assembly of the Aeon-R engine, as well as scaling manufacturing operations. This is a unique opportunity to join an experienced team and build the skills necessary to create robust and highly tuned engine systems. You will be hands-on with hardware from day 1, so strong attention to detail and drive to grow your skills are necessary.

You will interpret work instructions and engineering drawings to complete tasks, while providing feedback to the team on necessary improvements. This role involves in-house processes and support resources such as precision cleaning, hydrostatic proof testing, flow testing, and engine assembly.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and assemble Aeon-R engine components on the front line of production.
  • Scale manufacturing operations and participate in process improvements.
  • Interpret work instructions and engineering drawings to complete tasks accurately.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and manufacturing teams on improvements.
  • Support in-house processes including precision cleaning, hydrostatic proof testing, flow testing, and engine assembly.
Qualifications
  • Experience working on engines, with a primary focus on engine components.
  • Familiarity with the architecture of a Gas Generator cycle engine and associated nomenclature.
  • Experience with high pressure fluid system development and testing (hydrostatic proof, pneumatic leak check, flow testing).
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical system integration.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and engineering drawings.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have (not required)
  • Familiarity with 5S manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience transitioning from development into high-volume production.

At Relativity Space, compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. We offer competitive salary and equity, PTO and sick leave, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and more. For details on benefits, please visit our benefits page.
