Vast is a company developing next‑generation space stations to enable a continuous human presence in space. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical Subassemblies to support the design and build of artificial‑gravity human‑rated space stations.
This full‑time exempt position reports to the Manager, Mechanical Subassemblies.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with design teams to provide input on the manufacturability of subassemblies.
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes and onboard equipment for subassemblies, focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Create and maintain detailed manufacturing plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions to ensure consistent production.
- Identify and resolve manufacturing challenges through root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with quality assurance to establish and maintain rigorous quality control processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving product quality.
- Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Working knowledge of machining, drilling, assembly, bonding, and related manufacturing processes.
- Mechanical aptitude and a desire to work hands‑on on a production floor.
- Experience designing tooling and hardware using CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
- Experience with flight hardware or safety‑critical systems.
- Experience transitioning complex products from R&D to production in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders to address manufacturing non‑conformances.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality work.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
- Willingness to work overtime or weekends to support critical milestones.
$86,000 – $195,000 USD
Compensation and BenefitsBase salary varies by experience, education, and market demand.
