Position Summary

Memorial Care Medical Group is seeking a board-certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in Pediatric Endocrinology to provide high-quality, family-centered care in a community-based pediatric specialty practice. This position is based at the Cherese Mari Laulhere Children's Village at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach, located on the campus of Memorial Care Long Beach Medical Center. Working collaboratively with pediatric endocrinologists and an interdisciplinary care team, the NP or PA will play a key role in improving access to pediatric specialty care, supporting chronic disease management, and delivering culturally responsive care to a diverse patient population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Care
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of pediatric endocrinology patients, including medical history, physical examinations, growth and development evaluations, and ongoing clinical monitoring
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric endocrine and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, growth disorders, thyroid disease, adrenal disorders, disorders of puberty, and related conditions
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising pediatric endocrinologists
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical devices in accordance with scope of practice, licensure, and California regulations
  • Provide follow-up care and long-term management for chronic endocrine conditions
Patient & Family Education
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, nutrition, and disease self-management
  • Provide education and support related to pediatric diabetes care, including insulin therapy, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), as applicable
  • Address health literacy, cultural considerations, and social factors impacting care adherence and outcomes
Collaboration & Care Coordination
  • Collaborate with pediatric endocrinologists, nursing staff, diabetes educators, dietitians, social workers, and other care team members
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, referring physicians, and community resources
  • Support continuity of care across outpatient and inpatient settings as needed
Documentation & Compliance
  • Document patient care accurately, thoroughly, and timely in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Comply with Memorial Care Medical Group policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, access, and clinical outcomes
Professional Practice
  • Maintain required licensure, certification, and continuing education
  • Remain current with best practices and clinical standards in pediatric endocrinology
  • Participate in department meetings and service-related initiatives as assigned
Qualifications

Required
  • Minimum of two years of pediatric endocrinology experience with complex patients
  • Experience managing pediatric diabetes, including insulin pumps and CGM technology
  • NPs must be able to meet the Requirements for Nurse Practitioners in California Children's Services Special Care Centers
  • PAs must be able to meet the Requirements for Certified Physician Assistants in California Children's Services Special Care Centers
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current, unrestricted California NP or PA license (or eligible)
  • National board certification (CPNP, FNP-C, or PA-C)
  • DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred
  • Bilingual skills reflective of the communities served
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Outpatient pediatric specialty clinic environment at The Children's Village
  • Includes inpatient rounding and hospital discharges at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard clinical equipment throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
Schedule
  • Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Primarily weekday clinic hours as well as hospital rounding
