Job Functions / Responsibilities- Operate CMM machine, create and maintain CMM work instructions for the set‑up and inspection of parts.
- Perform advanced programming and operation of specialized inspection equipment, e.g. CMMs, discuss inspection results with those responsible and recommend necessary corrective actions.
- Analyze and interpret blueprints, routings, evaluation sheets, manuals and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.
- Operate the CMM to verify engineering data requirements for measurements and characteristics from complex parts and assemblies.
- Inspect complex purchased and internally manufactured parts for conformance to customer specification requirements.
- Perform visual, dimensional, mechanical, and optical inspections per instructions.
- Perform First Article Inspections per AS9102 (AS9102 and GD&T experience is a must).
- Work from engineering drawings, internal and external specifications, quality assurance standards, test procedures, and verbal instructions to determine acceptance of product.
- Inspect manufactured and/or processed products using hand measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.).
- Perform all inspection requirements specified on the Traveler to allow the product to proceed through the department in an effective and timely manner.
- Identify rejection history in the department and work with the other team members to develop and implement changes that will eliminate the root cause for the defect.
- Use computer to document quality records, first article and dimensional reports, and job status, including the scanning and filing of records.
- Assist with lean initiatives and participate where required. Assist in training lower level inspectors.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Quality.
- Follow all departmental safety rules and regulations.
- Promote teamwork within the organization.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Quality systems and standards.
- Experience with VERISURF and PC DMIS 3D metrology inspection software programs is essential.
- Ability to program in PC DMIS for CMMs is required.
- Ability to utilize VERISURF for ROMER arm inspections is required.
- Ability to utilize Dassault Systems ENOVIA PLM to interrogate MBD parts.
- Ability to utilize Dassault Systems CATIA CAD software is preferable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Ability to utilize the proper inspection equipment and methods to determine conformity.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T principles and their relation to inspection; ability to use this knowledge to facilitate communication between Production and Metrology.
- Ability to read and use micrometers, functional and cylindrical gauges, comparators, indicator setups, scales.
- Advanced knowledge of CMM operations including setup, programming, and controls.
- Ability to use computer and web-based systems to input, access, modify, or output information.
- Knowledge of part special handling guidelines and specifications.
- Knowledge of non-conformance procedures and processes when parts fail inspection.
- Knowledge of and ability to communicate technical and complex material to multiple audiences, with differing knowledge levels.
