ResponsibilitiesHowmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Quality Tech III, Quality Specialist at our aerospace manufacturing facility in the City of Industry, CA.
Summary Under general supervision performs inspection and calibration of gauges and tooling. Maintains all record and documentation pertaining to calibration system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Good communication skills & know basic shop math
- Ability to work in fast paced environment
- Basic understanding of work instructions, routers, blueprints, drawings, and specifications in English
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as required
- Able to lift/move up to 30 pounds regularly
- Able to follow and carry out instructions
- Must be detailed oriented
- Become familiar with the Daily Management board and understand covered topics as required
- Able to perform dimensional inspection of all characteristics of manufactured products
- General knowledge of manufacturing operations and each department identification methods and requirements
- Prepare inspection documentation including loading to customer portals (Net-Inspect)
- Demonstration of problem-solving techniques and ideas
- Able to train Quality Tech I-III as required
- Able to cross‑train in other Quality activities as required
- Able to write internal rejections for Quality Manufacturing and Vendors
- Able to lead MRB process and resolution meetings
- Able to cross train in other Quality departments as required
- Able to inspect samples under black light to detect defects such as discontinuity of seams, thread laps, non‑metallic and metallic (NDT) inclusions, piping, grinding checks, cracks, etc. (NDT)
- Able to work with variety of quality system software
- Support Quality Certs or Inspection when required
- Performs inspection and calibrates all in‑house gauges and tools used for product acceptance.
- Maintains documentation and evidence of calibration on all tools and gauges.
- Assist manufacturing and inspection with the recall of gauges.
- Coordinates with procurement on gauges which require outside calibration.
- Schedules outside suppliers for calibration of in‑house tools, gauges and equipment.
- Reviews calibration results for tightening or reducing of calibration frequency.
- Runs detailed First Article Inspections using tools like micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, and optical comparators
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints using GD&T
- Handles customer claims and rejections through quality portals
- Takes the lead or supports during internal and external audits.
- Leads and drives root cause analysis for customer, internal and supplier corrective actions.
- Works closely with teams across Production, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality to keep things running smoothly
Basic Qualifications
- 3-5 years hands‑on inspection experience in aerospace, medical devices or other highly regulated manufacturing environment
- Strong organization skills, from paperwork to multitasking electronically in fast paced environment
- Experience with tools like micrometers, calipers, ring/thread gauges, CMM, and optical comparators
- Familiar with AS9100, ISO 17025, AS 13001, AS9102, ISO 9001, FAI's and customer quality requirements, Net-Inspect
- Must be able to pass vision test
- Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this option
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) which requires U.S. Person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (ie. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee
Preferred Qualifications
- SAE or similar inspection certifications preferred
- Internal auditor certifications (AS9100 or ASQ CQA/CQI) a plus
- Use of Net-Inspect customer portal
- High School diploma or GED preferred
