Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Services – Monitor and direct pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic in high‑volume areas of campus, act as a visible safety presence at designated crossing locations, assist users with temporary traffic patterns and restricted access, coordinate with stakeholders, and immediately notify CSULB PD of hazards or incidents requiring police response.
  • Security Services – Patrol campus facilities and surrounding areas on foot to prevent hazards, enforce campus rules, notify CSULB PD of incidents, write incident reports, and secure campus facilities, including monitoring alarm systems.
  • Public Safety Support – Provide assistance to CSULB Police and other campus departments, participate in emergency preparedness training and respond to emergencies, consult with supervisors and project stakeholders on operational safety concerns, and assist with safety monitoring during campus events and construction activities.
  • UPD’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program – Support the department’s UAS program, operate department‑authorized drones (when certified), assist with mission planning, equipment maintenance, data management, documentation, training, and provide aerial support for emergency management, public safety operations, inspections, special events, and other authorized functions.
  • Campus Community Support – Provide general information, directions, and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors; assist with logistics for events and emergencies; provide safety escorts when needed; serve as a professional, customer‑service‑oriented representative of CSULB Police at campus events and daily interactions.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by education, experience, and qualifications. The hiring range is $3,461 (Step 1) – $4,137 (Step 10) per month. The CSU Classification Salary Range is $3,461 (Step 1) – $5,043 (Step 20) per month.

Ideal Candidate

Capable of learning and applying procedures related to campus security, public safety, and library operations. Interacts effectively with a diverse range of individuals. Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and discretion when handling sensitive situations and confidential information. Observant and detail‑oriented, with the ability to detect and respond to hazards or criminal activity, accurately recall incidents, and take effective action to resolve parking and traffic issues.

Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate incident reports. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Follows all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies.

Education and Experience

High school diploma (equivalent) and six months of related experience required.

Licenses / Certificates

California driver’s license required. Successful completion of a livescan background check required.
