Position Summary

Ecology Auto Parts, Inc. seeks a highly skilled Diagnostic Diesel Technician to join our dynamic Fleet & Maintenance team. The role requires advanced knowledge in diesel mechanics coupled with modern diagnostic expertise on Cummins and Paccar engine platforms. The candidate will bring deep understanding of electronic diagnostic software, data analysis, and fault resolution to ensure our fleet operates at peak performance.

Working under the shop manager, the selected candidate will serve as the go‑to technician for engine diagnostics, root‑cause analysis, and smart repair strategies, supporting operations at either Long Beach or Santa Fe Springs.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair engine issues using OEM diagnostic platforms (Cummins Insite, Paccar DAVIE4, etc.)
  • Conduct electrical, emission system, and sensor diagnostics across heavy‑duty diesel trucks
  • Interpret fault codes, update ECU software, and calibrate sensors as needed
  • Perform advanced preventative maintenance and major component overhauls when necessary
  • Troubleshoot aftertreatment systems, DEF issues, DPF regens, and other emissions‑related concerns
  • Document all repair activities in fleet maintenance software with accuracy and clarity
  • Assist in training junior mechanics on electronic diagnostics and standard repair techniques
  • Provide input on fleet condition and recommend strategies to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of assigned work spaces in accordance with OSHA and company standards
Requirements

Qualifications / Knowledge / Critical Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience with advanced troubleshooting abilities
  • Proven experience with Cummins and Paccar engine diagnostics, software use, and repairs
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required); technical certification in Diesel Technology (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Strong proficiency in electronic diagnostic tools, laptops, and OEM software systems
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service bulletins
  • Highly organized, self‑motivated, able to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment
  • Capable of lifting 50–75 pounds; bending, standing, and working in physically demanding conditions
  • Commitment to safe practices and compliance with all federal and state regulations
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
  • Performing duties requires regular sitting, handling, and reaching with hands and arms, and ability to speak and hear
  • Frequently required to stand and walk
  • Must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Requires regular lifting, pulling, and manipulation of tools and equipment
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle fluids, and noisy environments
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Some travel required
Compensation

Competitive hourly wage range of $25 to $35 per hour, based on experience and diagnostic proficiency. In addition, benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) plan with employer matching; generous paid time off; and life insurance coverage.
