Under the direction of the Supervising Building Services Engineer, this position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric, electronic, and pneumatic control systems, including Energy Management and Building Automation Control systems.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor campus-wide building heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning equipment and energy demand to ensure efficient operation while maintaining occupant comfort.
- Maintain, install, and repair building automation control system components and all associated HVAC equipment.
- Respond to Facilities Management Customer Service work orders and after‑hours emergencies to resolve control‑system failures and HVAC problems.
- Assist energy‑management consultants in re‑commissioning and modernizing building automation system control components to increase efficiency and reliability.
- Schedule HVAC equipment as required to ensure thermal comfort and ventilation needs for occupied spaces.
Facilities Management Department – Provides comprehensive facilities support across the campus.
Time Base & Appointment1.0 time‑base, 40 hours per week. Temporary appointment for one year with no permanent status granted; may expire prior to the ending date.

CompensationSalary range: $6,705 (Step #1) – $9,768 (Step #20) per month.

- Knowledge and experience with electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls and Energy Management Systems, including programming experience with energy‑management software.
- Familiarity with control systems manufactured by Staefa/Talon and Niagara.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment specific to this trade and work hands‑on with the trade requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret written material at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Ability to perform record‑keeping functions and complete work orders.
- Experience working in a university or large institutional setting.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse campus community.

- Equivalent to four years of journey‑level experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large, complex heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air‑conditioning, and water treatment systems; installing, inspecting, serving, repairing, replacing, and calibrating building automation and control systems; and using programming features of building automation systems.
- Solid work record.
Valid California driver’s license required.
