Under general supervision of the Director FM, the Supervising Electrician is responsible for the day to day supervision and performance of a crew of journey level electricians and other assigned personnel in all places of operations of the campus electric shops.
Key Responsibilities- Supervises and schedules the work of crews operating and maintaining and repairing building electrical equipment throughout the campus. From service order, or according to preventative maintenance schedule, determines, the necessary materials, supplies and equipment and prepares list from which they are purchased; develop preliminary funding obligations by estimating labor and material costs; lay out and assigns work to crafts workers and helpers;
explains safety procedures and-devices and assures their proper use; and inspects finish work for quality and conformity to specifications. Provides assistance and input to making complex estimates for repair or replacement work estimates for smaller work as required. Oversees and ensures accurate documentation of labor, materials, preventive maintenance activities, and work order completion within the University’s computerized maintenance management system (Planon).
Supervises maintenance, testing, switching, and repair activities associated with campus medium-voltage electrical distribution systems, substations, transformers, switch gear, protective devices, and related infrastructure. - Provides electrical expertise and technical guidance regarding campus electrical infrastructure, energy conservation initiatives, electrical system upgrades, medium-voltage distribution systems, and construction or renovation projects. Participates in planning and coordination of electrical shutdowns and campus utility outages.
- Administers and enforces electrical safety programs including NFPA 70E requirements, Lockout/Tagout procedures, arc flash safety practices, personal protective equipment compliance, hazard assessments, and applicable building and electrical codes. Provides safety leadership, training, and oversight for assigned personnel.
